Career Technical Education (CTE) provides students of all ages with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners. At Plumas Unified School District and Plumas Office of Education, we strive to offer hands-on opportunities in the classroom, in businesses, and virtually when necessary. There are 15 California Industry Sectors that we develop our Career Pathways from within our four high schools. We are able to complete this through annual state and local grants as well as district funding.

 CTE Mission

  • The mission of the Career & Technical Education Department (CTE) is to empower all students with global opportunities while providing lifelong learning with academic and technical preparedness to succeed in their chosen careers. CTE programs and course offerings provide unlimited educational opportunities for all students to acquire the necessary skills needed for entry into a global workforce and/or continuing their education at the post-secondary level.

    CTE Program Goals

    • To provide each ninth grade student the opportunity to identify career interests that are related to a career cluster, to develop an educational plan, and to select a logical sequence of courses.
    • To offer each student career learning experiences prior to graduation from high school.
    • To provide each student upon graduation with academic and technical skills needed to pursue additional education (technical school, community college, college or university) related to a career interest identified in high school.
    • To provide each student with understanding and knowledge that ethical behavior and workplace skills are integral to successful employment.
    • To incorporate new and emerging foundation skills needed to perform tasks proficiently at current business and industry standards.

Shop (Wood, Auto & Maker Space)
  • Campus projects: 
    • a classroom remodel - 2-year project and used on campus field trips to work for the day with trade specialists on site - PHS
    • Cutting boards for culinary - PHS
    • 30 Bunk beds for Taylorsville Outdoor Ed Site built by GHS and CES students and teachers from lumber donated by Sierra Pacific Industries
  • Community projects
  • Soft skills: weekly Maker Space board meetings to set up the project and learn meeting etiquette leading to a culminating event presenting process and completion with a picture.
