Wednesday, April 24, 2019: Full Scale Exercise, Active Shooter Scenario at Portola High School

Please be aware that next Wednesday, April 24, 2019, an Active Shooter Full Scale Exercise will be held at Portola Jr Sr High School. Portola High School will have an early release at noon. Only students and staff who have volunteered will be participating in the full scale exercise. Law enforcement, Emergency Medical Services including helicopters and Fire Departments will be at the school participating in the exercise. Due to the nature of the scenario, this exercise is closed to the public. There will be an increase in activity at the Portola High School due to the exercise, including some road closures at California Street and Sixth Avenue, as well as Nevada Street and Sixth Avenue from 12:00 pm until 4:30 pm. The purpose of the full scale exercise at Portola High School is to test our local law enforcement, emergency medical services, hospitals, school district as well as other community partners who would respond to an incident involving an active shooter in our community.
