Plumas Unified School District (PUSD) is completing its successful first week of the 2023-24 school year. Students and staff returned to schools on August 28, 2023, with excitement and enthusiasm.

“We are so excited for the start of the 23/24 school year! It's always a time filled with new possibilities as students bring their unique energy to campus,” says PUSD Superintendent William Roderick. “We're grateful for the hard work all of our teams put in to make sure everything is ready for a great start. Wishing all of our families, students, and staff a fantastic school year ahead!”

Welcoming New Teachers

PUSD welcomes 19 new teachers to the district this year, bringing fresh perspectives and energy to our students' learning experience: five at Chester Elementary, two each at Greenville Elementary and Greenville High, one at Quincy Elementary, six at Quincy Jr/Sr High, three at C. Roy Carmichael Elementary, and two at Portola Jr/Sr High.

Supporting Mental Health

New this year is a partnership with E-Therapy Mental Health Counseling Services, providing mental health counseling to students in need. E-Therapy’s licensed professional counselors offer teletherapy services with students in treating mental, behavioral, and emotional problems and disorders. Counseling services are available to all Plumas County Office of Education students for free. For more information, visit the PCOE/PUSD E-Therapy page here.

After School Fun

Elementary school families have the option to enroll their child in the free after school program provided at each elementary site, starting on the first day of school, offering engaging activities and a nutritious snack every weekday. Families should contact their school site office to learn more about how to sign up for the program.

Thriving in Sports

Fall sports are in full swing, with football, soccer, volleyball, and cheer teams holding practice after school on high school athletic fields, gearing up for a great season. Check your area school’s Facebook page to see when and where games are happening, and make sure to catch a home game in your community.

Early Release Updates

This year, early release days are moving from Mondays to Fridays. School staff use early release days for professional development and collaboration. Check with your school for specific early release times.

  • Schools will hold Back to School Nights soon, families should keep an eye on their inbox and school social media pages for more information on times and dates.
  • Elementary parents, keep in mind that Parent-Teacher conferences are October 2 - 6, 2023, and will be minimum days for students. Check with your school for release times.
