Portola Jr/Sr High Sophomore performs at state Poetry Out Loud event

PHS sophomore Zion Dammons at state Poetry Out Loud competition
On March 17 and 18, Portola Jr/Sr High sophomore Zion Dammons represented Plumas County at the California State Poetry Out Loud event. He qualified by becoming the Plumas County champion on January 28th in Quincy.

For Zion's first round poem, he recited "Invisible Children" by Mariana Llanos. In round two, which was held in an annex of the state capitol, Zion tackled the pre-20th century poem "Life in a Love" by Robert Browning. While Zion was not one of the five finalists, he was one of the 51 state level competitors out of the 18,000 students who began the journey at their initial level competitions.

Congratulations, Zion! We are so proud of you!
