Get Ready for Kindergarten with PUSD’s Annual Round Up Events

Dental screening at Kindergarten Round UpMedical professionals like Graeagle dentist Dr. Barton volunteer their time to provide required health screenings for children enrolling in their first year of school.

This April, families in Plumas County have a fantastic opportunity to prepare their children for kindergarten with ease and excitement. Plumas Unified School District (PUSD) is hosting Kindergarten Round Ups across our communities—a worthwhile event for families enrolling children in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) or Kindergarten (K) in Plumas County.

All Kindergarten Round Ups are from 3:30 to 5:00pm. Please allow 1.5 hours.

  • Chester Elementary: Tuesday, April 16, 2024
  • Greenville Elementary: Thursday, April 18, 2024
  • Quincy Elementary-Pioneer Campus: Tuesday, April 23, 2024
  • C. Roy Carmichael Elementary in Portola: Thursday, April 25, 2024

At these Round Ups, local healthcare providers from Eastern Plumas Healthcare, Plumas District Hospital, Seneca Healthcare District, and Plumas County Public Health, alongside professionals from PUSD and Head Start, will provide free dental, hearing, vision, and medical screenings. These essential health checks are not only a requirement for school entry but are also offered at no cost thanks to medical community volunteers.

“The support from our medical volunteers provides incredible convenience and ensures that these necessary screenings are accessible to all,” says PUSD Lead School Nurse Emilee Pruitt. “We are committed to helping every family in Plumas County ensure their child is healthy and ready for their first memorable day of school.”

The Round Ups also serve as a perfect chance for children and their families to visit their future school campuses, meet their future teachers and staff, and connect with vital community resources including local healthcare providers and community organizations like Rotary clubs and parent groups.

To streamline the process, Nurse Pruitt recommends that parents pre-register their children online at PUSD Registration Portal. For Kindergarten, children must be age 5 on or before September 1, 2024. For Transitional Kindergarten, eligibility includes children turning 5 between September 2, 2024, and June 2, 2025. Further details are available on the Plumas County of Education/Plumas Unified Website.

Prepare for a smooth start to your child’s educational journey. Join us at the Round Ups for a day of health, education, and community connection.
