Understanding Our Fiscal Recovery

Plumas Unified School District is currently working closely with the Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team (FCMAT) as we address serious financial challenges. As part of this process, the district has entered into a state receivership in order to stabilize our financial operations and ensure long-term sustainability.

To keep our community informed and involved, we’ve created this Fiscal Recovery Resource Page. We will be updating this page with 2026-27 information as it becomes available.

July 14 2026 Transportation Update

Hello PUSD Staff, Families, and Communities,

As part of our work to address the district’s $9.5 million structural deficit, we have had to make several difficult decisions. The closure of Pioneer Elementary School, reductions in staffing, and significant changes to transportation services are among the most substantial reductions.

As we shared in May, PUSD will not offer general home-to-school transportation during the 2026–2027 school year. Transportation will be limited to students whose services are required by law or identified through an individual student plan or program.

The district will retain two large buses and five smaller special education buses. The larger buses may be used for academic field trips and student opportunities, including Plumas to Pacific, Career Technical Education activities, and college exploration trips. Unfortunately, the district will not be able to provide transportation for athletic events during the 2026–2027 school year.

We are encouraged by the progress in our financial outlook. Staffing ratios are becoming more aligned, and we are seeing strong progress across many departments. This year, our focus will be on rebuilding systems, strengthening services, and providing the best possible learning experience for every PUSD student.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
