The Importance of Attendance

Attendance matters! Did you know that chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third-grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school? Promoting good attendance is crucial for academic success and overall well-being of students of all ages.

What are the benefits of having good attendance?

  • creates a positive learning environment
  • enhances students' academic performance
  • prepares them for future responsibilities
  • regular attendance helps students develop time management skills
  • build strong relationships with peers and teachers
  • contributes to a positive school culture

Cultivating a school-wide culture of attendance involves creating a climate that promotes positive, trusting relationships between students, families and staff; ensures engaging learning opportunities, classrooms and schools; and identifies and removes barriers to attendance and school success.

We strive to provide understanding and integration of engagement with attendance, mental wellness and additional factors that disrupt positive school experiences for the students in Plumas County. Our goal is to help our students and their families get through the barriers that they are facing with attendance and to provide them with the support and the resources they need to succeed.

A student is considered chronically absent when they are absent for 10 percent or more of the total instructional school days. For example, most schools have 180 instructional days; if a student is absent 18 or more of those days, the student would be considered chronically absent.

We can help! We can provide support and resources for a number of barriers that students and their families face. Please reach out to the information below and let’s explore how we can support you.
